Hometown: Slateport City

History: Reynald was born by two Slakings in Slateport City. He is the oldest of his twin, who was 6 seconds younger. His father was a fishermen and his mother sold the fish his dad caught in the Slateport Market. Since their parents are always gone, there was a person to look after them, an old Stoutland named Mr. Germane. Mr. Germane was like a second father to Reynald, as he bonded with him so much as he was growing up. He never really talked to his real father though, as he was out at sea for the most part. He only saw his mother on Sunday, as that was when the market was closed. With that day only he would try to spend his entire day with his mother, asking questions or asking if he can help with anything. The second person he was closest to was his twin brother (named Gilbert), as they shared a room together and always played games together when Mr. Germane was busy with cooking their food.

Since the only school that was technically close to Slateport was Rustboro, Mr. Germane offered to homeschool the twins. Whenever he came by to watch over them, he would start to teach them the variety of subjects, such as reading, math, and science. During the lunch breaks they would get, he would tell Reynald and his twin brother some stories to entertain them. His stories always fascinated him, and actually asked him if he could write some of them down. From the stories Mr. Germane wrote down, it helped him actually read a little bit better. At some nights, when he couldn’t sleep, he would read any of the books nearby, including any math or science textbooks. At around age 14, he evolved into a Vigoroth. However, with the evolution came with some problems.

Ever since he evolved, he has had problems falling asleep. When he tried to go to bed after his evolution, he would lay there wide awake while his twin brother slept soundly. He had no idea why he couldn’t sleep, and it started to freak him out. On the Sunday his mom was home, he asked her why he couldn’t fall asleep. She told him that all Vigoroth go through a phase where they cannot sleep at all, so it will go away once he evolves. At first, he trained so much that he tried to evolve into a Slaking, but he soon started to lose hope and decided to give into the sleep deprivation. At the nights he couldn’t sleep, he would read the math textbooks, and soon start to try to solve the questions. When he was sure they were right, he would show them to Mr. Germane to see if they were correct. Soon, all the text books he had did not have any more problems for him to solve. Mr. Germane decided to give him more advances texts, like Calculus and Trigonometry. At night we would read each chapter of the textbook then try to solve the answers. After so long, he finished the two books, and had no more text books to read, so he would just reread them and re-solve the questions once again. At times, he would go back to reading the stories Mr.Germane wrote, and even requested him to write more. Of course, he was happy to oblige. Soon he had more books Mr. Germane had written and kept them on their own special shelf where he would read them when he didn’t feel like reading the textbooks anymore.

When it was Reynalds and his twin’s 17th birthday, Mr. Germane gave the two one more book that he had written, and told them not to open it until the day after their birthday, to which they agreed. Before their birthday, Mr. Germane had been going through some medical problems, due to his old age. He had caught a strange disease in the past, which had caused him to stop homeschooling the twins for a bit until he recovered. Even though the disease was gone, it still had affected him greatly to where it caused him to have chest pains. At the night of the twins’ birthday, Reynald still couldn’t sleep. He stared at the book intently, waiting until it stuck midnight so he could read the book before his twin can. However, the plan was changed. The phone in the house began to ring, so he answered it. It was a call from the hospital. Mr. Germane died from a heart attack while walking back to his house. Apparently some pedestrians found him on the ground and called the ambulance to come and get him, hoping that there was still some time to save him. Reynald couldn’t help it. He started to cry. The person that he saw as a father figure had died on his birthday. He should of gone with him, he kept telling himself, but it didn’t matter now. A few days later, a funeral was arranged by Mr. Germane’s daughter. While at the funeral, Reynald remembered the book Mr. Germane had given him for his birthday. When he and his family returned from the funeral, he went into his room read the book. It had turned out that the book was a story about him and his brother, from when they were little until now. Mr. Germane had been writing the book ever since he started to homeschool them. He broke down into sobs now. He kept the book and the other books Mr. Germane wrote, as it was the only way for him to remember him.

Three months after the funeral, his parents have been trying to find a school for him and his twin to go to. Since the only school that was close had to involve a boat ride that costs a lot more than the school, they decided against it again. Then his mother remembered something. On one of the wooden posts in the market place, there was a flyer for a school, called the Armonia Institute. The next night she came back, she sent a letter to the institute to see if they would accept the twins. After about a week, Gilbert was rejected but Reynald was accepted. Upon hearing that he was accepted, he started to pack what he needed and the last book that Mr. Germane had given him. He made his way to the port, said goodbye to his parents and twin brother, and sailed off to the Armonia Institute, hoping that he can learn something new there and hoping to meet people there that would want to be his friend.
